SCN anniversary conference succeeds

   Delegates from over 50 countries came together at the Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida, USA in April to attend the 10th Anniversary SCN International Conference.  During the three day meeting, members attended two AM general sessions and spent the remainder of the days in the all-important one-on-one conferences with other members.  Those 1/2 hour meetings were all prescheduled through the SCN website in the days leading up to the conference.

   Presentations at the opening general session were given by ET2C, an international procurement specialist; WIN, (Worldwide Information Network), a real-time communications and tracking platform available to forwarders; air freight service to Latin America (by Tampa Cargo); the World Bank/IFC Doing Business Project; and using social networking to achieve distinction, presented by Robert Vermetten of Transport and Project Logistics, SCN members in Antwerp, Belgium.

   Day 2 began with the annual shareholders' meeting of SecurityPlus! Financial Corp., the group's member-owned payment guarantee program.  Following that, numerous members gave presentations:  Double Ace Cargo (Miami and Panama):  Panama and the New Canal; Quick Cargo (London, UK):  The Olympic Challenge; Phoenix ECTS (Athens, Greece):  Causes and Outcomes of the Greek Crisis; and Rotra Air and Ocean (Belgium and the Netherlands): Cargo Movement in the BENELUX area and the rest of Europe.  INTTRA, the global information network for the ocean cargo industry and a  component of the WIN program, also gave a pesentation on trackiing services available at no charge to SCN members.

  At the annual awards banquet, Distinguished Service Awards were given to Al Kazemi International (Salmiya, Kuwait); All Services (Milan, Italy); Blue Axis Shipping and Freight (Dubai, UAE); Glory Trans Shipping Agency (Qingdao, Tianjin, and Xiamen, China); and Main Freight Carriers (Rotterdam, Netherlands).  These companies were recognized for their good service to members, conference attendance, constructive attitudes, and so on. 

   At the end of the conference, a vote was taken among serveral cities in Western Europe as the site of next year's conference.  A decision won't be available until site visitations and initial reserach on the venues have been done.
